John Legend –‘All of me’ Lyric review: A Story Behind the Song

1528716_449499365151831_626947604_nThere are mainstreams of contemporary R&B song these days but this Legend’s song gave me a LSS (Last song syndrome). This song peaked in the No. 1 spot of Billboard Hot 100 making his number one first single in United States. Legend dedicated his song to his wife Chrissy Eigen. All of me” epitomize what it means to be in love. Every word in the song and Legend’s fantastic vocal just swept me away. The guy’s aching love for his significant other was vividly painted in this song. It is a heartwarming song that celebrates unconditional love and an admission that every relationship has its flaws and issues.

What would I do without your smart mouth?
Drawing me in, and you kicking me out

This shows that sarcasm and irritations. Drawing me in and kicking me out can refer to kissing and romance but the girl is pushing him away and involves some verbal compliments, both an allure and disgusting.

You’ve got my head spinning, no kidding, I can’t pin you down
What’s going on in that beautiful mind
I’m on your magical mystery ride
And I’m so dizzy, don’t know what hit me, but I’ll be alright

These lines literally mean the same thing. The man can’t figure out what’s going on in their relationship. The girl is unpredictable and impulsive.  Even though this is happening he accepts that and hoping it will be all alright.

My head’s under water
But I’m breathing fine
You’re crazy and I’m out of my mind

These lines show immunity, insusceptibility, invulnerability. His love is so strong. He is her oxygen. He can’t live without her.

‘Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections

He loves not only her femininity, but her intelligence and ability to know what she wants, even if it’s exactly what’s hurting him. He knows that she is imperfect, but cherishes that fact.

Give your all to me
I’ll give my all to you
You’re my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I’m winning
‘Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh

A love so pure it sees no flaws. He loves her for who she is and not what he would want her to be. Without her his life would be incomplete. With her everything makes sense, it all adds up. He can be vulnerable with her, nothing can hold them down. There is nothing can come between them.

How many times do I have to tell you
Even when you’re crying you’re beautiful too

No what the girl is going through, he will always be there. Even the girl is crying he can find her beautiful in his own eyes.

The world is beating you down, I’m around through every mood
You’re my downfall, you’re my muse
My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues
I can’t stop singing, it’s ringing, in my head for you

He uses metaphorical visualization to describe his girl. He used to say that the girl is his goddess of inspiration and much more. He can’t stop thinking about her.

Give me all of you
Cards on the table; we’re both showing hearts
risking it all, though it’s hard

Putting your cards on the table is a metaphor for putting your entire self out there without knowing the outcome of said action. They are displaying their hearts which is the very depths of their souls. What he’s saying is they’re putting everything out there for each other to see and holding nothing back.

So in conclusion, this song is all about a crazy romantic love story. It depicts the man’s ups and downs in their relationship. It also describes a man how much she love the girl with all his heart. They know that it takes giving their all in exchange for a deep love and eternal happiness with each other. And so for that I’ll be going to give kudos for John Legend for this song.
